Janta Mela for monks & urban poor to be held at Khel Gaon

Gangtok, 28 Jun:

Chief Minister Pawan Chamling’s Janta Mela-cum-Jan Sampark Abhiyan for residents of urban areas and monks from all four districts of Sikkim is scheduled to be held at Khel Gaon in Reshithang on 29 Jun.

The Janta Mela will be organised by Urban Development & Housing Department, and will see the CM handing over government benefits to monks and the urban poor of Sikkim.

Minister of UDHD, NK Subba, has informed that GCI roof sheets, pressure cookers and rural housing schemes will be presented to the monks.

Similarly, GCI sheets, electric rice cookers, PMAY and housing schemes will be granted to the urban poor.

The urban poor from Gangtok Municipal Corporation, Namchi Municipal Council, Jorethang-Nayabazaar Municipal Council, Gyalshing Municipal Council, Mangan Nagar Panchayat, Singtam Nagar Panchayat and Rangpo Nagar Panchayat will be eligible for the government benefits provided they are registered voters in Sikkim.

“Janta Mela for monks and urban poor is being held for the first time in the State of Sikkim and the country as well,” said Mr Subba.
