3 Sikkimese footballers in Bhutan’s Women’s Super League

Three Sikkimese girls namely Nimita Gurung, Nim Riki Sherpa and Aita Hangma Limboo are currently at Thimpu in Bhutan under the banner of Sunrise FC, Thimpu to participate in the Women’s Super League 2018 being organised by Bhutan Football Federation.

All three girls are products of Soreng Girls’ Football Academy [SGFA] in West Sikkim.

In-charge of SGFA, Palden Bhutia, informed that the girls were signed by Sunrise FC earlier this month.

“We had been in touch with Sunrise FC since May and when they asked for four players, we sent them data based on performance and play history of our girls,” he added.

Nim Riki [20] hails from Bermiok Martam in West Sikkim and plays as a midfielder while Nimita [20] is from Sanga Dorjee in Rinchenpong and plays as a defender.

Aita Hangma [24] is a striker hailing from Thongling in Soreng. She also assists Mr Bhutia in SGFA operations.

It is informed that international footballer from Sikkim, Lhako Phuti Bhutia, has also been signed by Sunrise FC for the Women’s Super League scheduled to commence from 01 Jul. Since she is currently attending National Indian Senior Women’s Football Camp for Asian Games being held in Bengaluru, she will be joining Sunrise FC team from 01 Jul after completion of the camp.
