SAATHI offsite training camp held at Chemchey

Gangtok, 30 Jun:

Sikkim against Addiction and towards Healthy India [SAATHI] organized an offsite training camp for five Government Schools namely Luing Government Senior Secondary Schools, Mellidara Government Secondary School, 4th Mile Government Junior High School, Aho Kishan Government Secondary School and Burtuk Government Junior High School at Indian Himalayan Centre for Adventure and Eco-Tourism [IHCAE] in Chemchey, South Sikkim from 27-30 Jun, a press release informs.

The camp had the participation of 117 students and 08 teachers from the above mentioned schools.

During the camp, various motivational and technical sessions on substance abuse along with learning based fun and physical activities were conducted with the students. The students were informed about physical, emotional and social effects of alcohol, marijuana, tobacco and substance abuse and its ill effects in education, goals and future success.

A session on Basics of Counseling was conducted by Pragyan Deep Dewan [Counseling Psychologist] while Dewaker Basnet [Proprieter, 24 Hours Inspired] spoke on communication skills.

Likewise, Pranit Thapa [Teacher Coordinator, Namcheybong GSSS] conducted a session on medical aspects of drugs with Joy Gurung [Sub Inspector, Namchi SHO] highlighting on legal aspects of drug abuse and Bikash Bista [Teacher, Jorethang GSSS] counseling the students about various consequences of addiction.

The other activities during the camp included team building sessions, planning sessions, meditation, nature walk/physical training and talent hunt.
