Centre will grant L-T Assembly seats in one or two months: CM

Chief Minister Pawan Chamling today said that the Centre will pass the proposal to grant Assembly seat reservation toLimbooTamang communities of the State in the next 1-2 months. In the upcoming Assembly election, theLimbooTamang communities will get tribal seats, he added.

The CM said this during his address at the final of the inter-constituency football tournament [men’s open] organized by Sikkim Democratic Front’s West district committee at Kyongsa ground in Gyalshing, West Sikkim.

“Every bit is ready at the Centre and they will pass it soon. It will take one or two months. The Centre will pass L-T seats in the cabinet. After this, a Presidential ordinance will be passed in the Parliament. Nobody can stop the process now as it is a Constitutional right. The opposition has been trying to make it a political issue to instigate the L-Tpeople on the seat issue forpolitical gains,” he stated.

On the Sherpa land rights issue, the CM said that the government is framing a law that prohibits other communities from buying land belonging to members of the Sherpa community.

“The sale and purchase of Sherpa land will be within the Sherpa community. This will be passed in the coming Assembly and has already been passed in the cabinet meeting,” he said.
