Football association formed for and by football players of Sikkim
Gangtok, 10 Jul:
Football Players Association of Sikkim [FPAS] has been formed in a meeting held here at Paljor Stadium on 08 Jul with the participation of prominent ISL footballers namely Sanju Pradhan, Nirmal Chettri, Bikash Jairu, Robin Gurung, Kunzang Lachungpa and Uttam Rai along with footballers from different clubs from in and around the State.
Speaking to media today, Nirmal Chettri informed that FPAS has been formed for and by the football players of Sikkim.
“We discussed on the need for players to maintain a professional culture and discipline in and outside the field. We also urged the players to avoid jumping from one club to another club during a single playing season. We also deliberated on clubs giving professional contracts to the players. The need for insurance for the players has also been discussed as there are high chances of injuries in the sport,” said Nirmal.
Expressing dissatisfaction over the turnout of players attending the meet, Nirmal said, “We were expecting a large number of footballers from all districts of the State. The association is for the players who are playing in Sikkim. We discussed on many things but could not take any concrete resolutions as the turnout was poor,” he added.
It is informed that FPAS will be holding another meeting on 12 Jul at Guards Ground in Tathangchen.
“We are inviting all footballers including women footballers for the meeting. The association is for the footballers of Sikkim and a larger participation will encourage the initiative. We appeal all to attend the 12 Jul meet, especially senior players who can lead and guide the association,” said Nirmal.
The ad-hoc committee of the FPAS will be formed during the meeting on 12 Jul, it is
