Singtam Hospital docs hold special camp at Old Age Home


Gangtok, 15 Jul:

DASSH (Doctors Academic Society of Singtam District Hospital) conducted a special health camp at Ishwaramba Samithi Sanga Old Age Home at Jalipool on 14 July.

Specialists comprising of Dr Mayel P Lepcha (Eye Surgeon), Dr Rigzing Lepcha and Dr Tshering Gurung (Dental Surgeons), Dr Birendra Chettri (Physiotherapy), Dr Chultin Lepcha (Chest Medicine), MMU unit & Pharmacist provided comprehensive health check up for the senior citizens residing at the old age home, a press communiqué received from Dr Satish Rasaily, president, DASSH, informs.

Dr Mayel Lepcha highlighted that DASSH was an academic body established by doctors of Singtam District Hospital to promote continued medical education to develop capacity/ skills of doctors on recent medical advances for evidence-based treatment.

Dr Rigzing Lepcha, who is also the DASSH general secretary, further informs that DASSH has also been conducting regular health camps at Old Age Homes and Children's Homes as part of the organisation’s endeavours to provide health services to special population groups.

DASSH, it is informed, is planning to adopt the Jalipool old age homes for regular health check-ups on quarterly basis. DASSH generates resources for its activities through individual contribution from doctors.

She also highlighted that DASSH is also involved in conducting sports and marathons based on health related themes.

Recently in June, DASSH organized a Table Tennis championship themed on mental health issues.

“We are planning to organize a marathon also this year. The theme will be Run for TB free State to generate awareness on eliminating TB from the State,” she said.
