West DC tours far-flung areas of district

Gyalshing, 18 Jul [IPR]:

District Collector, West Sikkim, Dr AB Karki, visited various parts of the district under Daramdinconstituency accompanied by MLA, Daramdin,DN Sherpa, officials of line departments and Panchayats of various GPUs under the constituency. The two-day visit of the DC which had commenced on 16 Jul concluded today.

DrKarki visited Daramdin, Sombaria, Okhrey, Hillay, Ribdi, Bariakhop and Dodokwhile interacting with the concerned area officials and Panchayat members.

The visit unearthed various problems of the public and the officials alike. Issues of delay in construction of CMRHM houses, electricity issues relating to the probability of the loss of life in certain areas, registration of governmental lands and proper utilization of those lands for other beneficial purposes, issuing of Certificate of Identification [COI] and providing them to the public at their doorsteps were seen as major issues which needimmediate attention and solution.

While interacting with the Panchayats of Lower and Upper Fambong, Lunchok, Salangdang, Okhrey and Ribdi GPUs,DrKarki explained their role as public’s voice and representatives. He mentioned that the sole aim of Panchayatsis to work for the public’s welfare like Chief Minister PawanChamling.

He gave various ideas of ‘Low-Cost; No-Cost’ initiatives which the Panchayats could follow in their areas. Further, he advised the Panchayats to come up with award winning initiatives for their respective GPUs.

The DC also visited and inspected the various ongoing projects under Daramdinconstituency like the Ethnic Center at Bariakhop, the foundation stone of which had been laid by the CM on 28 Feb, 2018. He also interacted with the public who have been directed to be relocated due to the project and advised the Panchayat member that the process has to been done swiftly and in an orderly manner.

The DC has expressed strong desire to visit more GPUs of West district wherein similar inspections and interactions will be done for the public’s convenience. Further, he plans to visit more remote areas of West district every week to improve administration.
