Mangan, 23 Jul:
Traffic along Mangan-Gangtok route has remained still since 21 Jul after heavy rainfall triggered a massive landslidethat has washed away the road at Takchu-Thungsa, near Namshim forest nursery, in North Sikkim.
Mangan-Gangtok vehicles have been plying via Dikchu-Rakdong road while commuters heading to Kabi and Phensong villages are being transshipped over the landslide taking an extra one and a half hour.
The road clearing and restoration work has already been started by Border Roads Organisation [BRO]. For early restoration, a private earthmover has also been pressed into service.
Traffic is expected to resume by Tuesday evening, it is informed.
