Not enough reservation for Sikkimese in SU:Ugen T Gyatso

Fifty members of Sikkim Democratic Front party’s student wing for East district including Tumin-LingeeConstituency received their official appointment orders as convenor, vice-convenor and executive members. The appointment orders were handed over to them during the SDF Students Front coordination meeting held todayhere at the conference hall of Tourism Department in Tadong.

The orders were handed over by Tourism Minister-cum-SDF Students’ Front in-charge,Ugen T Gyatso.

Addressing the gathering, MrGyatso expressed that students need to carry positive energy in order to shine in their future.

“This meeting is a not a political meeting. It is meant to provide career counseling for the youth,” he added.

Stressing on issues related to Sikkim University, the Minister expressed disappointment on the University failing to cater to the interests and requirements of the local Sikkimese students.

He slammed the SU authorities for providing low reservation for Sikkimese students in the University.

“I am against the policies of SU and the share our students are getting is not right. We understand the rules but the interest of the State and local students must be a priority,” said MrGyatso.

He accused the SU authorities of misusing their powers and alleged of certain authorities playing politics in the University.

The Minister further extended his best wishes to the office-bearers of the SDF Students’ Front who received their appointment orders today and urged them to work diligently for the betterment of the State.

Vice president, SDF Students’ Front,BhimDhungel,highlighted theeducation sector in the State and the efforts made by the SDF government to cater to the youth of Sikkim.

He called upon students to imbibe proper cultural values to become good citizens of the State.
