Gangtok, 27 Jul:

Sikkim KrantikariMorcha will be marking the release of its president PS Tamang [Golay] from the State Prison on 10 Aug by celebrating the day as Jan UnmuktiDiwas or People’s Liberation Day.

Speaking to SummitTimes, SKM general secretary [press & publicity], BikashBasnet informed that Mr Tamang will address his supporters at Singtam Bazaar on the day of his release.

“'Jan UnmuktiDiwas' has been arranged by the party at Singtam where Mr Golay will address a massive gathering to announce his freedom from the chains of conspiracy of SDF led Government,” he stated.

After this, he will visit his parents in his village Singling in West Sikkim where he will stay for two days before taking over the reins of the party, informed Mr Basnet.

“Undoubtedly he is the brand of our party, he will lead the party on the day of his release,” he added.

On what Mr Tamang’s release would mean for the party and politics in general, Mr Basnet said that it was only after the formation of SKM in 2013 that Sikkim finally found a strong opposition to instil the spirit of democracy.

“His release will have a great impact on the political landscape of Sikkim and it will be for the good,” he stated.
