First State Govtengineering college, SIST, inaugurated in Chisopani
Jorethang, 28 Jul [IPR]:SpeakerKN Rai,today inaugurated the commencement of courses at Sikkim’s first engineering college under the stategovernment, Sikkim Institute of Science and Technology [SIST], at the premises of Centre for Computers & Communication Technology [CCCT] in Chisopani, South Sikkim.
Present for the inaugural event were Minister of Human Resource Development Department, RB Subba, Additional Chief Secretary, HRDD, GP Upadhyaya, Special Secretary, Higher & Technical Education, DK Pradhan, CCCT and SIST Principal,PravinPradhan, Sub Divisional Magistrate,Jorethang,TsheringBhutia, Block Development Officer,Jorethang, PremK Rai, along with South district HRDD officials, Panchayat members, heads of schools and students of CCCT and SIST,Chisopani.
Speaker, SLA, MrRai, extended warm greetings to the newly inducted students and the administration of SIST on the opening of the first ever state governmentengineering college. The overall development of the country largely depends on technological advancement and technical education in the State has a big role to play in this regard, he added.
“Education sector of Sikkim has risen phenomenally in the last few years under the State Government and leadership of Chief Minister PawanChamling. With more than 1500 government schools, 471 private schools and 12 colleges that impart good professional education, Sikkim is witnessing an imposing advancement in all spheres,” said MrRai.
He also called for collective coordination and cooperation between the locals of Chisopani and the administration of SIST for sustainability of the educational institute that will bring about further development in the region. He also urged students to realize the possibilities at all educational levels and incorporate hard work, dedication and sacrifice in their lifestyle to attain success in their lives.
Minister for HRDD, MrSubba, also addressed the gathering wherein he conveyed his best to the students and parents. Showing keenness and optimism that the college will churn out successful computer and civil engineers in the future, the Minister imparted key ingredients of an ideal education system.
Additional Chief Secretary, HRDD,MrUpadhyaya, presented a brief report on the establishment of SIST wherein he mentioned that the college was established under RashtriyaUchchatarShikshaAbhiyan [RUSA], a project of Ministry of HRD, Government of India on 01 Dec 2015 and is a technical establishment approved by the All India Council for Technical Education [AICTE]. He also spoke about the quest of the institute to generate competent human resource and the idea of reinforcing stimulus to achieve desirable results from the students studying under SIST.
At the onset of the programme, the SLA Speaker along with dignitaries present visited the various facilities at the SIST campus and interacted with the newly enrolled students of the engineering college.
