Sikkim Himalayan collects first points in S-League

Gangtok, 29 Jul:

Sikkim Himalayan Sporting Club broke its jinx of losses in the Sikkim Football Association Premier Division Sikkim-League 2018 when it registered its first victory of the league edging past Unicorn FC 04-03. SHSC had lost both its previous matches and collected its first three points today.

Unicorn FC, however, despite consistently promising performances, is yet to notch its first victory.

It started well for them though when Suman scored for Unicorn FC in the 7th minute. But the team failed to maintain the lead for too long and Jasman Gurung scored the equaliser for Sikkim Himalayan SC in the 13th minute.

Within three minutes of this goal, Nikesh Gurung doubled the lead of Sikkim Himalayan SC in the 16th minute and his teammate Sudesh Subba further extended it in the 37th minute to end the first half with SHSC 3-1 ahead.

Unicorn FC players toiled hard to bounce back in the match and a goal by Subham in the 62nd minute gave them some hope and soon his teammate, Sonam Lepcha, scored the equaliser in the 79th minute.

Both teams again took each other head-to-head but remained unable to breach each other’s defence lines and the match appeared headed for a contesting draw until Nima Sherpa scored the winning goal for Sikkim Himalayan SC in the 89th minute.

On Monday, Sikkim Aakraman Football Club will take on the State Sports Academy in the next match of the league.
