Swachh Survekshan Grameen ‘18 launched in Sikkim

Gangtok, 30 Jul:

Chief Minister Pawan Kumar Chamling launched the ‘SwachhSurvekshan Grameen-2018’ in the presence of Minister for Rural Management &Development Department, SB Subedi, and other dignitaries today during the State level Sammelan for Rural and Urban Local Bodies2018 held at Manan Kendra in Gangtok.

The ‘SwachhSurvekshan Grameen-2018’ is a pan-India survey initiated by the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Government of India to develop ranking of the 680 districts based on their rural sanitation status. The survey will be based on a comprehensive set of quantitative and qualitative sanitation [Swachhata] parameters including data from the SBM-G IMIS, district-level surveys of public places like schools, Anganwadis, PHCs, Haatbazaars, Panchayat and citizen’s perception of Swachhata and their recommendations for improvement of the programme.

An independent agency has been hired by the Ministry which will visit villages to undertake the survey of public places and obtain citizens’ feedback. As part of the Survekshan, States and Districts will be ranked for their sanitation and cleanliness status. The survey will be conducted from 01-31 Aug, 2018 following which top performing States and Districts will be awarded nationally on 02 Oct, 2018.

Earlier, the CM also released the poster of SwachhSurvekshanGrameen 2018.

In his address, RM&DD Minister, MrSubedi, asked the Additional District Collectors [Development], Block Development Officers and the PRI members to put all their efforts to ensure that all the districts of Sikkim perform their the best in the survey.

Secretary, RM&DD, while applauding the efforts of the PRI members in rural sanitation, implored all the PRI members as well as the department officials to put in their concerted effort during the survey. He apprised them that the survey presented a wonderful opportunity to bring even more acclaim to the State in the field of sanitation.
