Shops without allotment orders shut down at Lall Bazaar
Gangtok, 31 Jul:
Officials from Urban Development and Housing Department and Gangtok Municipal Corporation along with Sikkim Police personnel conducted a raid at Khangchendzonga shopping complex today where shops and vendors operating in the complex without allotment orders were shut down.
Deputy Commissioner, GMC, SonamChopel, stated that shopkeepers who have not filed their allotment papers at GMC were shut down today.
The shopkeepers, however, stated that they have been running their business for past two years paying tax of Rs 10 per day to the GMC.
However, the GMC authorities denied taking any tax from the vendors and shopkeepers.
Shopkeepers have questioned thedecision of the authorities to suddenly shut down their shops after such a long time.
Why did it take so long for them to take action, they have asked.
They have further alleged that it is the department that causes delay in processing allotment papers and therefore, they are not at fault.
The shopkeepers have appealed to the authorities to resolve the matter as they will lose their daily bread if the shops are closed.
