Mangan, 02 Aug:
Two persons were killed in a road mishap which occurred here at Devi Dara near Kabi, North Sikkim, on the Gangtok-Mangan highway this evening. Two other people believed to have been in the vehicle at the time of the accident remain untraced while another person was rescued from the spot and rushed to medical assistance in Gangtok.
The Mahindra Commander vehicle bearing registration No SK 03P-0657 was plying to Labi from Gangtok when it plunged off the road at Devi Dara.
The deceased have been identified as Chogay Lepcha, the panchayat of Shardong ward under Phensong GPU, and Passang Namgyal Lepcha of Labi, North Sikkim.
The accident occurred at around 5 pm.
Another person was injured in the mishap and has been referred to Central Referral Hospital, Gangtok.
The accident occurred about 30 metres from the Devi Dara spot where the road had been blocked for the past one week and was opened only a couple of days back.
Upon hearing of the accident, people from nearby villages rushed to the spot for rescue along with the police personnel from Kabi Out-Post.
According to the survivor, there were five occupants in the car, but only three occupants, two of them dead, had been found till the late tonight.
