Gold Cup Inter School Girls’ Football Tourney kicks off in Soreng

The 2nd State Level Gold Cup Inter School Girls’ Football Tournament kicked off today at Soreng Senior Secondary School in West Sikkim in the presence of Yangthang MLA, Chandra Maya Subba, as chief guest.
The 13-day tournament is being organisedjointly by Human Resource Development Department, Sports & Youth Affairs Department in collaboration with SorengIndependence Day Celebration Committee 2018, a press release informs.
The inaugural match was played between Soreng SSS and Hee-Gyathang SSS wherein SorengSSS bagged a comfortable victory by 8-0 goals. YoznaRai from Soreng SSS was adjudged the player of the match.
On 03 Aug, Machong SSS [East Sikkim] will take on Sadam SSS [South].
During the programme, renowned girl footballers from Sikkim namely LakhuPhuti Bhutia, NimitaGurung, AitaHangmaSubbaandNimkit Sherpa were also felicitated by the organizing committee for their contributions towards girls’ football in the State.
It may be mentioned here, the winner of the 2nd State Level Gold Cup Inter School Girls’ Football Tournament will be representing the State at the Subroto Cup scheduled to be held in New Delhi next year.
