Gangtok Round Table 301 to honour media personalities

Gangtok chapter of NGO Round Table India, Gangtok Round Table 301, will be organizing an event under the banner of “Titans of Media” to honour State press and media personalities at Hotel Yangthang Heritage in the capital on 07 Aug.

Addressing the press on 02 Aug, Chairperson of Gangtok Round Table 301, PravinAgarwal, said that the press and media being the fourth pillar of democracy holds special significance in any society with Sikkim being no exception.

“Media has undoubtedly played an important role in bringing out true information while maintaining peace and tranquility in the State,” he added.

It is informed that the programme is designed to honour hardworking and deserving press and media personalities in the field of print, digital, radio, electronic and women media personalities. The organizers in association with Press Club of Sikkim will be unanimously selecting five media persons of the State for the honour.

“The names will be revealed on the day of the event,” said the organisers.

It may be mentioned here, Round Table is an international friendship organisation founded in England in 1927 and has now spread to 52 nations. It was established in India in 1962 and has 4850 members across the country.

The Gangtok Round Table 301 was formed in 2017 and since then has conducted many social activities.

It is informed that the NGO has since then associated itself with V Guard Limited and hasalso constructed an auditorium atMamring Junior High School in East Sikkim.

President, Press Club of Sikkim, Joseph Lepcha, thanked the NGO for coming up with the initiative of felicitating and honouringrepresentatives of the fourth pillar of democracy.

Governor ShriniwasPatil will be attending the event as chief guest, it is informed.
