SDF carries out Umbrella Rally in the capital SKM supremo’s release does not affect SDF, says vice p

Sikkim Democratic Front today held its awareness programme under the banner of Umbrella Rally for urban areas of Gangtok and surrounding Constituencies.

A large number of umbrellas were distributed by the party to its workers who merrily displayed the umbrellas as they walked past the capital in huge numbers.

“Long live SDF, PawanChamlingzindabad!” people shouted.

The programmehad the presence of party workers, MLAs, Mayor, Councillors and some top office bearers of the party.

While speaking to SummitTimes, general secretary [administration], DevGurung, stated that it is not a State level programme but a programme directed towards the ‘Urban Local Bodies’ areas of Gangtok which has four constituencies namely Gangtok, Syari, Burtuk and Arithang.

He added that similar event was held in West Sikkim.

The rally started from Guards Ground moving along Zero Point towards Hospital Dara then finally towards the party headquarters at Indira Bypass via Deorali.

MrGurungexpressed hope that this move will “reinvigorate the party cadres with a renewed thrust for more public participation to take forward party ideologies and principles”.

“We are hopeful of more such events to reinvigorate the youth,” he stated.

Another party member fromCheliMorcha, NishaShiwakoti, said that such activities will further boost the ideas and thoughts of the party and its leader.She stated that SDF is the best with focus on women and youth of the State.

SunitaSirohia of SDF’s traders’ cell, while enumerating the pro-Sikkim policies of the government, said that all party members must take part in such activities which will take forward initiatives for betterment of the State.

With elections next year, the party members are hopeful of a repeat of their record term in governance on the prime issue of peace and sustainable development.

Senior vice president, DB Thapa, then addressed a press meet at the party office and stated that more than 7000 people attended today’s edition of Umbrella Rally.

He also added that the party is confident and does not see the release of SKM supremo, PS Tamang [Golay] from prison as a threat.

Praising the leadership of the party president and Chief Minister, PawanChamling, he said that the faith and the trust of Sikkimese people lies with SDF.
