Phurba Sherpa selected for Pro Kickboxing League 2018


Gangtok, 09 Aug: International kick-boxer from Sikkim, Phurba Sherpa, has been selected for the Pro Kickboxing League 2018 scheduled to be held in Oct later this year. She is the only kick-boxer from Sikkim in this professional kick-boxing league. She recently attended the selection trial held from 03-05 Aug at International Martial Arts Academy in Rohini, Delhi. She has been selected in the 60 kg category of the league. Speaking to media persons this afternoon, Phurba shared her “immense happiness” on qualifying for the professional league. She mentioned that only the eight best martial artists have been selected in each weight category. “The selection trial was really tough as it included around 30 contenders in my 60 kg category from different parts of the country and I am really happy on having been selected,” she shared. Having held a passionate interest in professional kick-boxing for a long time, Phurba had participated in the Pro Kick Boxing held at Bhubaneswar in 2016. “I am happy to be a part of this mega event Pro Kickboxing League which is to be held for the first time in the country,” she expressed. She will be going back to Delhi at the end of this month to sign the agreement. This league will be telecast live on sports channel. 30-year-old Phurba hails from Upper Sumin in East Sikkim and is presently working as State kick-boxing coach for Sports & Youth Affairs Department. She had won an international silver medal for the country in 2017 at Turkmenistan and represented India in three other international competitions. She has also bagged four gold medals in national championships.
