Four footballers killed in a vehicle mishap

Four footballers died on the spot when their vehicle bearing registration No. SK 01J/2842 plunged around 300 feet below the road at 3rd Mile along Dikchu-Rakdong road in East Sikkim on 09 Aug.
The deceased have been identified as Satish Singh [Dikchu, New Market], Tara Chettri [Jang Basti] and Sandesh Rai& Raj Kumar Rai[Aapdara, Lower Tintek]. The deceased Raj Kumar Rai was behind the wheel, it is informed.
Others injured in the accident are Bikash Sunam[Dikchu, New Market],Tilak Sharma [Dikchu Bazaar], and Arun Rai, Ashish Rai, Arpan Rai and Binod Tamang, all residents of Jang Basti, Lower Rakdong.
It is informed that the deceased were part of a football team and were returning from Khamdong after playing a match for Independence Day Football Tournament there. Thecause of the accident is yet to be ascertained.
The exact reason of the accident is not known yet but the inclement weather conditions could have led to the accident as thearea is said to be very foggy in the evenings.
The injured persons have been rescued by local people and police personnel from Dikchu Outpost, battling through the steep cliff with the help of a rope. The rescue team managed to evacuate the injured persons by 2 a.m.this morning who were rushed to STNM Hospital and CRH Tadongin Gangtok.
The dead bodies were recovered at around 4 a.m. after the disaster team from Gangtok arrived on the spot.
