All-women’s Police Station inaugurated in Kalimpong

Kalimpong, 13 Aug:

An all-women’s police station was inaugurated here today in the old DIB building by Inspector General of Police, Manoj Kumar Verma. The thana has Sub-Inspector Sabita Lama as the OC and Shanti Lama as Assistant Sub-Inspector. Six lady constables were also deputed yesterday to the police station along with lady civil force personnel.

The IGPalso accepted that there was shortage of personnel in the State and remarked that since Kalimpong is also a new district, even these issues will be worked out by and by.

“The government is taking steps for that. Recruitments are going on for constables and sub-inspectors. It may take a little time, but the vacancies will be filled soon,” he said.

About infrastructure, he said that improvements and enhancements were already underway and that proposals of police stations in Pedong, Reyang, Algarah and Lava have been mooted by the officers.

The IGP also mentioned that more police units will be established and more concern will be given to the traffic.

“The progress will come in time as it is a new district and it will take time to build the infrastructure,” he said.

Meanwhile, Sister Subishna Thapa, the Director of Bal Surakshya Abhiyan, an NGO that works for the welfare of children along with the protection of the girl child, also expressed her gratitude to the Superintendent of Police, Dhurva Jyoti De, for being proactive and welcomed the establishment of an all-women’s police station within such a short span of time since Kalimpong was declared a district.
