Namchi celebrates 72nd Independence Day
Namchi, 16 Aug[IPR]:
The 72nd Independence Day was celebrated by South District Administration at Singithang public ground in Namchi, South Sikkim on Wednesday. Speaker, SLA, KN Rai, attended the event as chief guest in the presence of District Collector [South],Prabhakar Verma, Additional District Collector [South], Satyan Pradhan,and other officials.
The day’s event commenced with hoisting of the National Flag followed by inspection of the march past parade by the chief guest. Thereafter, DC, Mr Verma, and ADC, Mr Pradhan, read out the 72nd Independence Day message from GovernorShriniwas Patil and Chief MinisterPawan Chamling, respectively.
The programme was marked by colourful band display by Namchi Girls’ Senior Secondary School and various cultural performances by different schools and colleges.
In the march past competition, Namchi Public School girls’ contingent stood first, the second position was a tie between two girl contingents namely Namchi GSSS and Tendong Institution while Namchi SSS bagged the third position.
The chief guest also presented the Simran Memorial Trust Award which included a souvenir and cheque of Rs 50,000 to district topper, Rashid Ghosh from Namchi SSS, who scored 97% in Science stream.
Mr Rai also felicitated Government employees from an array of departments for their relentless efforts in elevating their concerned departments.
The awardees are Lall Bahadur Basnett [Lower Division Clerk, Human Resource Development Department], Gyamtso Bhutia [Assistant Sub Fire Officer, Namchi Fire Station], Prem Dhoj Raj [Field Assistant, Food Security & Agriculture Development Department], Birkha B Pradhan [Village Level Worker, FS&ADD], Tshering Uden Bhutia [Field Assistant, FS&ADD], Jas Bahadur Chettri [Office Assistant, Forest Wildlife Division], Nar Bir Gurung [Chowkidar, Forest Wildlife Division], Dawa Tamang [Head Forest Guard, Forest South Territorial Division], Man Bahadur Tamang [Nursery Mali, Forest South Territorial Division], Sangita Dahal [Coordinator, Namchi Nehru Yuva Kendra], Santosh Rai [Junior Engineer, Road & Bridges, Yangang Division], Daya Ram Kharel [Senior Accountant, Roads & Bridges, Namchi], Kalawati Chettri [Private Secretary, Roads & Bridges, Namchi], Karma Lepcha [Junior Supervisor, Roads & Bridges, Namchi], Prashant Rai [Sub Inspector, Jorethang Police Station] and Marcus Dhungel [Head Constable, Jorethang Traffic].
In the final match of South District Football Tournament, organized by South District Football Association Namchi [SDFA], Red Panda FC emerged as the winner against Sikkim Police with a score line of 1-0.
Addressing the gathering,SLA Speaker, Mr. Rai, spoke in brief about the significance of celebrating Independence Day while drawing examples of great prominent national leaders as well as of responsible citizens who have sacrificed for the country. He emphasized that public should immensely value their freedom and work diligently towards developing the nation.
He spoke in detail about the holistic achievements that the State of Sikkim has achieved in various fields like economic development, education, tourism, rural development, organic farming, health and many more and updated that the State Government will continuously work towards uplifting the lives of the State and its people.
