GANGTOK, 17 Aug:
A three-day Chess Camp of Sikkim Chess Association [SCA] for inmates of State Central Prison, Rongyekstarted on Thursday. In the camp, SCA general secretary, MahendraDhakal, who is also an international arbiter, has been providing knowledge on the basic skills, techniques and latest rules and regulations to 32 participants. The second day of the camp also witnessed a rapid chess tournament.
Mr Dhakal mentioned that SCA plans to conduct such chess camps regularly in the State Central Prison to bring change in the thoughts and lifestyle of inmates. He expressed that the camp has been getting encouraging and positive feedback even on the second day.
Mr Dhakal stated that if this initiative brings about positive changes in inmates then the initiative would be taken to the FIDE to take it further to other parts of the world. He thanked the State Central Prison, Rongyek, ASPBinodTamang for supporting the initiative and also thanked the Home Department Secretary, PratapPradhan for his cooperation in the initiative.
