Gangtok, 18 Aug [IPR]:Minister for Information & Public Relations, Arjun Kumar Ghatani, addressed journalists from Press Club of Kolkata [PCK] at SoochnaBhawan in Gangtok today. Twenty-eight journalists led by PCK president, Snehasis Sur, arrived in Gangtok last evening.
Journalists from leading media houses and organizations namely Doordarshan, ETV, Kolkata TV, JanpathSamachar, Times of India, The Hindu, Sangbad Pratidin, Kalantar, Hindustan Samachar, Ekdin, Ananda Bazar Patrika, Bartaman, Ei-Samaya, RajeshthanPatrika, Sangbad Pratidin, Hindustan Samachar, Vishwamitra, Sadhana News, 24 Ghanta, Aajkaal, Dainik Statesman, Sunmarg and The Telegraph are a part of the visiting team.
In his address, MrGhatani extended warm welcome by offering khadas and mementoes to the journalists. He shed light on the challenging journey of Organic Mission accomplished by the State of Sikkim under the visionary leadership of Chief Minister PawanChamling in the year 2016.
He touched upon various path breaking initiatives including the Chief Minister’s Rural Housing Mission, Ten Minutes to Earth, Green Mission, ParyavaranMahotsava, forming everlasting bond with trees called Mith/Mithini which is exclusive to Sikkim. He also spoke at length on the Chief Minister’s Meritorious Scholarship Scheme, Ambedkar Scholarship Scheme and about the Khangchendzonga National Park as the only Mixed World Heritage Centre in the entire country.
The Minister also highlighted the remarkable transformation in women’s empowerment and social justice in the State. He informed them about the State Government’s initiative of free HPV Vaccine for girls [09-14 years] in the State which helps in prevention from cervical cancer and also informed about the State Government’s endeavour to eliminate Tuberculosis by 2022 in Sikkim.
President, PCK,Mr Sur, applauded the State of Sikkim in various spheres and shared that the declaration of Sikkim as 100% literate State, cleanliness, poverty elimination, cultural and political stability, Organic Mission, ongoing developmental works got PCK toorganise a study tour to Sikkim.
He also applauded the record set by MrChamling as the longest serving CM in the country and said that it is an extraordinary feat that the leader and the State has achieved.
Officials from Tourism & Civil Aviation, Commerce & Industries, Rural Management &Development, Energy & Power and Agriculture & Horticulture Departments gave PowerPoint presentations on various subjects of notable policies/areas in their respective departments.
Secretary, Agriculture, KhorloBhutia, also briefed on the background of agriculture and floriculture pattern in the State of Sikkim.
Earlier, Director, IPR,TashiChopel, briefed the gathering onthe purpose of the study visit and anticipated a cordial bilateral relation between the two States and the journalism fraternity.
