SILTAC holds meet with Minister AK Ghatani in Jorethang
Gangtok, 18 Aug:
Sikkim Limboo-Tamang Apex Committee [SILTAC]organised a meeting on the recent development at the Centre regarding expansion of seats in Sikkim Legislative Assembly. The meeting was chaired by Area MLA-cum-Health Minister,Arjun Kumar Ghatani, at GaribUtthanBhawan inJorethang today, a press release informs.
Addressing the gathering, MrGhatani, recalled contributions of former Prime Minister LateAtalBihari Vajpayee and particularly his support and cooperation with Chief Minister PawanChamlingin providing tribal status to LimbooTamang community in Sikkim in the year 2002.
He underlined various initiatives taken up by the State Government for the welfare of LimbooTamang community in political, cultural andsocial sector since 1994. He also shed light on untiring efforts of the Government to ensure reservation for LT community in SLA.
MrGhatani further urgedPanchayats and concerned citizens from every ward/Gram Panchayat Units and NayabazaarJorethang Municipal Council to collect authentic ground report from every household during door-to-door campaign as per newly designed format as the data will be immensely useful for future perspectives.
Chairperson, SILTAC, CB Subba,talked about theendeavours of the State Government and SILTAC together to provide seat reservation for LT communities at the earliest. He condemned allegations and stated that Article 371F is the most supportive constitutional provision to ensure seat reservation for LT.
He presented documents and information of the entire process started since 1995 and further appealed to people to support the Government for the success of the long pending demand which is reported to be accomplished at the earliest.
Likewise, Advisor, SILTAC,KalawatiSubba, highlighted the agreements signed before the inclusion of Sikkim into the Indian Union. She informed that the State Government has urged the Union Government several times to grant reservation of Assembly seats for LT communities in SLAand the matter is all set to get through the topmost level of authority within the month of Sept. She further informed about series of meetings and efforts made by SILTAC delegation at Union level to expedite the demands for seat reservation.
Earlier, two minutes silence was observed on the demise of former PM,AtalBihari Vajpayee.
