United FC stands unbeaten, defeats Sikkim Himalayan SC

The second phase of the Sikkim Football Association Premier Division Sikkim-League 2018 resumed here at Paljor Stadium on 17 Aug. Bouncing back harder, Unicorn Football Club thrashed SAI Namchi 6-1 to get full three points from its first victory in the league on Friday.

SonamLepcha scored an early lead for Unicorn FC in the 5th minute and extended the lead to 2-0 with his brace in the 31st minute. With the help of goals by Bivek Bhutia in the 32nd minute and SumanKalikotay in the injury time, Unicorn FC ended the first half with 4-0 lead.

In the second half, SonamLepcha scored his hattrick goal in the 56th minute to extend the lead to 5-0. BashiLimboo tried to give some relief to SAI Namchi with his goal in the 77th minute but another goal by SumanKalikotay in the 85th minute sealed the 6-1 victory of Unicorn FC.

Before the match, SFA officials and members of both the teams paid tribute to former Prime Minister Late AtalBihari Vajpayee by offering khadason his portrait and also observed two minutes silence.

In another match of the league played today,United Sikkim Football Club edged past Sikkim Himalayan Sporting Club 3-2.

Sikkim Himalayan SC finished the first half with 1-0 lead with the help of a goal byHissey Bhutia in the 16th minute. Soon in the second half, SonamLepcha extended the lead of Sikkim Himalayan SC to 2-0 in the 50th minute.

United Sikkim worked hard to bounce back into the match and received some relief with a goal by Karan Rai in the 61st minute. Finally, OT Lepcha scored the equaliser for the team in the 84th minute.

As the match inched closer to a 2-2 draw finish, Pelsang Lama scored the winning goal for the defending champion in the last minute of the match. The unbeaten United Sikkim FC will be playing its last match in the league against State Sports Academy on 24 Aug.

Boys Club, Gangtok will take on the State Sports Academy in another match in the league on 19 Aug.
