CM announces 75% tax exemption for Start-up beneficiaries


Gangtok, 21 Aug:

Chief Minister PawanChamling today announced 75% tax exemption for entrepreneurs who avail the Chief Minister’s Start-up Scheme in the state.

This was announced at the World Entrepreneurs’ Day organised by the Entrepreneurs’Hub at SammanBhawan.

The CM has asked youth to take advantage of such opportunity for empowerment rather than a relief or a grant.He further stated that an entrepreneurial venture will also be started to help the entrepreneurs of Sikkim.

Further, he asked the stakeholders to take note of market demands while venturing into such opportunities.

Talking about man made tourism infrastructures in the state including religious sites he stated that huge opportunities have opened up for the state which are original and has linked ancient beliefs and culture with modernity, economy and tourism.

Organic value based, agro based, ecotourism based, leisure tourism, adventure tourism, city tourism, education tourism and various other forms of tourism are the new opportunities government has been delving into, to make Sikkim a unique and sustainable tourism destination of the world.

He held that now there is a need for the youth to enter into transportation related ventures due to the high volume of tourists arriving in the state.

While stating that there is a "fatigue syndrome”,the CM asked the youth to have positive attitude to do something through which all problems can be solved.

Adding further he said that employment is being incorrectly defined with those not having government jobs being given the tag of an unemployed.

He appealed to citizens particularly the youth to be a master and take ownership of the society with such opportunities.

"Let's be a seeker and provider of opportunities," he said.

On the recent Land Bill that the Sherpa community has criticized, he said that he can't fulfil their demand of providing land rights to the community under Article 371Fsince it falls under the domain of the Parliament of India.

He also informed of the state working towards the goal of carbon neutrality and further stated that all government schemes will have 1% of the budget allocated for fulfilment of this goal.

The welcome speech was presented by DevikaGurung while another entrepreneur RewajChettri also a member of the entrepreneurs’ hub stated that 15000 Sikkimese youths have availed benefits along with 2000 registered members.

Fourteen entrepreneurs were also felicitated by the Chief Minister on the day.

Mr Sikkim 2018 Manhunt poster was also unveiled by the CM along with website launch of Mitho home delivery.

New product of Temi Tea, Cordyceps was also launched today along with the launch of organic yacon product.

The program was attended by Speaker KN Rai, Ministers Ugen T Gyatso, AK Ghatani and a host of entreprenuers from across the state.
