Ganga Prasad appointed Governor of Sikkim

Ganga Prasad has been appointed the Governor of Sikkim by the President of India as per a notification issued today. Along with him, the President has appointed Governors of six other states.
Governor Shriniwas Patil’s tenure had ended on 13 July and has been on extension since then.
Ganga Prasad was earlier appointed as Governor of Meghalaya in October 2017. Mr Prasad was a member of the Legislative Council in Bihar for 18 years and a former leader of the opposition in the Bihar Assembly. He was a businessman by profession but started his political career as a Jan Sangh member in 1967 and held various organisational posts in it as well as in BharatiyaJanata Party (BJP).
Ganga Prasad was born on 08 July, 1937 in Patna, Bihar. He holds a B Com degree and is a senior political leader who has had life-long affiliations with BJP. In the year 1994, he was elected as a Member of Legislative Council (MLC), a position he held till 2012.
As his political career progressed, he grew in prominence as well. When NDA came to power in Bihar, Ganga Prasad held the crucial position as the leader of Bihar Legislative Council. During his tenure as an MLC, he led the opposition from the front for 5 years in the State Assembly. He has also been the General Secretary of BJP in Bihar.
