Mani Trust collects funds for two cancer patients of Kalimpong
Kalimpong, 22 Aug:
Mani Trust handed over cheques of Rs1, 70,936 each to two cancer patients of Dungra and Paiyu under Kalimpong 1. The Trust, which was established on 28 May 2014 with an aim to improve living standards of people residing in the hills of Darjeeling and Kalimpong District, raises donations for downtrodden patients under its‘support for life’ initiative.
The Trust was approached by Samaj of both the villages few weeks ago appealing to raise funds for 28-year-old SurenBiswakaramaBhujel and 60-year-old SangitaRai.
Suren is suffering from throat cancer and is presently admitted at NRS in Kolkata while Sangita is suffering from uterus cancer and is admitted at CMC in Vellore.
Chief Executive Officer, Mani Trust, ReshmaRai Singh, informed that the 12-day donation camp from 02-14 Aug was held in aid of both the cancer patients in Kalimpongtown with due permission from Chairperson of Kalimpong Municipality. People donated a total sum of Rs3, 41, 872. The Trust bore all expenses during the camp, she added.
Kalimpong Superintendent,Dr A Simlangdi, handed over the chequesto the family members of Sangita and Suren in the presence of Riwali Youth Club, Dungra SewaSamaj and other trustees and advisors of Mani Trust.
The Mani Trust CEO has extended gratitude to all the donors and volunteers for making the fund raising initiative a grand success.
The donation collection report was handed to club members which will also be sent to Kalimpong Municipality, Police Station and DM’s Office, informedMs Singh.
It may be mentioned here, Mani Trust has been regularly supplying home-cooked food and water to homeless people of Kalimpongsince 29 May 2014 under its ‘Food for Helpless’ initiative. The Trust distributed English, Hindi, Nepali and Bengali newspapersat three parks of Kalimpong town under its Social Information Promotion initiative. Further, the Trust is working to establish a Medical Tourism Hub in Kalimpong and reviving the glory of Kalimpong Arts and Craft.
