New Governor Ganga Prasad to take office on 26 Aug

Gangtok, 22 Aug:

Newly appointed Governor, Ganga Prasad, will be arriving in the capital on 25 Aug and is expected to take charge as Governor of Sikkim on 26 Aug.

RajBhavan sources inform that the swearing in ceremony will beheld in the afternoon on 26 Aug at RajBhavan. Mr Prasad will be the 16thGovernor of the State.

Acting Chief Justice, MeenakshiMadanRai, will administer the oath of secrecy to the Government.

MrPrasad was transferred and appointed as the Governor of Sikkim by aPresidential warrant issued on 21 Aug along with six other heads of the Statesof the Indian Union.

Governor ShriniwasPatil’s tenure had ended on 13 Jul and he has been onextension since then.

MrPrasad was born on 08 Jul, 1937 in the city of Patna in Bihar. He holds a B.Com degree and is a senior political leader whohas had life-long affiliations with BharatiyaJanata Party [BJP]. Inthe year 1994, he was elected as a Member of Legislative Council [MLC], a position he held till 2012.

MrPrasad was earlier appointed as Governor of Meghalaya in Oct2017. He was a member of the Legislative Council in Bihar for18 years and a former leader of the opposition in the Bihar Assembly.
