Housing MoS reviews flagship GoI schemes in Sikkim


Gangtok, 24 Aug [IPR]: Minister of State [Independent Charge], Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India, HS Puri, reviewed the progress of various flagship schemes of the Government of India at a meeting held at the conference hall of Chintan Bhawan today.

The meeting was also attended by Sikkim UDHD Minister, NK Subba, and Chief Secretary, AK Shrivastava, among a host of senior officers of the UD&HD, Government of Sikkim.

Among the schemes reviewed by the Union Minister were Swachh Bharat Mission [Urban], Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation [AMRUT], Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Housing for All [PMAY-HFA Urban], Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Urban Livelihoods Mission [DAY-NULM] and Smart City Mission.

The Union Minister in his address commended the implementation of flagship programmes in the State. He observed that the department is doing notably well in ‘Ease of Living’ aspect in Gangtok. He urged the department to expedite the project proposals for central assistance for all the central schemes and submit the same to the Ministry for timely sanction.

He assured to provide all possible assistance from the Ministry to support the State in creating and updating urban infrastructures. The Minister also made a call for improving road connectivity in terms of better quality road between Bagdogra and Gangtok.

Earlier, Chief Secretary, Mr Shrivastava, in his brief address, apprised the Union Minister on the stages of implementation of the flagship programmes in the State. He also highlighted about the awards and accolades received by the State in diverse areas under Urban Development.

Secretary, UD&HD, LB Chettri, in his opening address stated that the focus laid by the Central Government towards the development of North East region of India has brought about positive changes in the lives of the people of these States including Sikkim. He recorded his gratitude to the Government of India for sanctioning two Smart City Projects for Sikkim.

Chief Town Planner, UD&HD, Rajesh Pradhan, made a presentation on the flagship programmes being implemented by the department.

Likewise, a presentation on Smart City Project, Gangtok, was made by Town Planner, UD&HD, Deeki Wangmu Bhutia, while presentation on Smart City Project, Namchi, was made by Joint Chief Town Planner of Namchi.

The meeting was also attended by Special Secretary, UD&HD, MT Sherpa, Chief Executive Officer, Gangtok Smart City Development Ltd, T Gyachho, CEO, Namchi Smart City Ltd, GT Bhutia, and senior officers of State UD&HD.
