United Sikkim FC lifts SFA Premier Div League Trophy for 3rd time

The defending champion, United Sikkim Football Club, has once again lifted the champions’ trophy of the Sikkim Football Association Premier Division Sikkim-League 2018 played here at Paljor Stadium. Former Indian football team skipper BhaichungBhutia’s United Sikkim FC remained unbeaten in the league and secured 19 points from 6 wins and 1 draw to top the point tally.
United Sikkim FC has now become the champion of the State premier division league for the third time. USFC had earlier won the league in 2012 and 2017.
In its last crucial match of the Premier Division Sikkim-League 2018 today, United Sikkim FC thrashed State Sports Academy 6-0 to finish the league on top. Bhaichung Bhutia was also present to encourage the team.
Karan Rai scored a hattrick in the 9th, 21st and 86th minute for United Sikkim FC while his teammate,PrashantChettri [33rd], Sanjay Chettri [57th] and KilpNamgyalBarfungpa [60th], contributed one goal each to the team’s victory.
United Sikkim FC has also secured its berth in the upcoming Governor’s Gold Cup Football Tournament 2018 and AIFF I-League second division.
Another strong contender in the league, Sikkim Aakraman Football Club finished the league on the second position with 16 points while State Sports Academy stood third with 14 points. Likewise, Sikkim Himalayan Sporting Club finished the league with 8 points, Boys Club with 8 points, Unicorn Football Club with 7 points, SAINamchi with 7 points and Pakyong United FC with zero points.
By finishing on the bottom, SAI Namchi and Pakyong United Football Club have been relegated to the second division Sikkim-League 2019.
The SFA also fined Pakyong UnitedRs 25,000 for missing five of its matches in the league.
KilpNamgyalBarfungpa of United Sikkim FC was adjudged Man of the Tournament while IndraDorjiTamangreceived the Best Goalkeeper trophy and Milan Chettri of State Sports Academy was presented with the Highest Scorer trophy for his 10 goals in the league. Boys Club Gangtok received the Fair Play trophy of the league.
Secretary to Sports & Youth Affairs Department, SDDhakal, who was present as chief guest, handed over the trophy, individual medals and cash prize of Rs 50,000 to the champion, United Sikkim FC.
United Sikkim FC coach, MayalDokLepcha, expressed his happiness and satisfaction on the performance of the team throughout the league.
“We remain unbeaten in the league and we won our matches with convincing margins. All players put their best efforts and played exceptionally well to finish the league on the top,” he said.
After a break for a week, the team will again start training for the upcoming Governor’s Gold Cup football tournament and I-League Second Division 2018-19, he added.
MrLepcha mentioned that if required some more players will be added to make a strong team to maintain good performances in upcoming tournaments and bring glory to the State.
Likewise, United Sikkim FC senior manager, ArjunRai, expressed his happiness on finishing the league as the champion for the second consecutive time and three times so far. He complimented the efforts of every player of the team to remain unbeaten in the league. He informed that as the club plans to participate in the I-League second division 2018-19 it has already sent a letter for the same to the AIFF.
MrRai mentioned that the club will continuously work to promote local players by providing them better exposure in and outside the State.
