Penlong Sec. School has won the district-level folk dance competition themed on Adolescence Education held on 24 August by the Population Education Cell of SCERT, HRD Department, under the National Population Education Project, NCERT, New Delhi, at Modern Senior Secondary School auditorium here.
Biraspathi Parsai Senior Secondary School came in second while Aho Kishan Secondary School came in third. The schools which bagged first and second positions will be participating in the state-level competition scheduled to be held on 21 September 2018.
The specific objectives of the programme was to effectively convey issues related to Population Education and Adolescence Reproductive and Sexual Health (ARSH) by using folk dance as a medium and to provide students experiential learning opportunities for life skills development and validating the strategies of the folk dance transaction of Population and Adolescence Education, an official press communiqué informs.
The programme was attended by officials, faculty members and administrative staff of SCERT, Gangtok, Principal and teachers of Modern Sr. Sec. School and the teachers and students of participating schools.
The jury members of the competition were Dr. Kuljan Lama, Medical Officer In-charge, School Health (RBSK) STNM hospital, Banita Lohagun, Artist, Culture and Heritage Department, Deepak Dhakal, Freelance Artist, Song & Drama, Music & Film Board.
Students from classes VIII and IX participated in the competition and addressed theme ranging from early marriage, women’s empowerment, drug abuse, respect for others, charm and challenges of adolescence and environment protection through their performance.
