A team led by area MLA, Gnathang Machong constituency, Transport Minister DT Lepcha, along with Secretary, Land Revenue Department, Relief Commissioner Tshegyal Tashi, Special Secretary, Tshewang Rinzing, Chairperson, Commerce & Industries Department, Choppel Dzangpo Bhutia, Sub Divisional Magistrate, Pakyong, TD Denzongpa, Sub Divisional Police Officer, Pakyong, Karma Tshedup Bhutia, Range Officer, Kusal Gurung, Panchayats and other officials visited the under construction Eklavya Model Residential School [EMRS] site today at Thekabung.
The team also inspected landslides that have occurred near EMRS and were informed about damage suffered by crop on the fields of Tashi Sherpa, Hari Sapkota, Durga Prasad Sapkota and HP Sapkota.
After the inspection, the Relief Commissioner informed that compensation for crop damage caused by the landslides will be released soon after completion of survey conducted by Pakyong Sub-Divisonal Land Revenue office.
Restoration works of the protection walls will also be done as per norms after the concerned departmental engineers prepare the estimates, he added.
The area MLA extended gratitude to the Land Revenue Secretary for surveying the damaged lands and crops of the villagers as well initiating the under construction EMRS at Thekabung.
“The area will become more developed once the EMRS campus is completed and will be functional by Mar 2019. The Constituency has seen many developments for the past four years through the support of the general public,” said Mr Lepcha.
He further urged the villagers to carry out organic farming and homestay tourism on a large scale. He called for public participation for the overall development of the area.
The team also visited landslides at Pachey where the restoration works of the road is disturbed due to regular flow of slush from the landslides. An alternate road to Pakyong Bazaar was also discussed on the spot.
The officials also visited the spot where the airport wall between Pakyong Bazaar and Bhanu Turning has been damaged. The team interacted with the concerned contractor regarding restoration of the damaged airport wall and road.
