Training on organic certification and input adoption at Lingdong

Gangtok, 31 Aug:

Organic Sikkim, a service provider agency under Sikkim Organic Mission, conducted GPU level training programme on certification and input adoption on organic farming for farmers of Lingdong Berfok GPU and senior students of Lingdong Secondary School at Gram Prashashan Kendra in Lower Lingdong, North Sikkim on 30 Aug, a press release informs.

Zilla Panchayat member, Ranzong Lepcha, Panchayat vice president, Chukit Lepcha, Panchayat member, Sonam Dupden Lepcha, Village Level Worker cum Mission Officer, KT Bhutia, and other officials attended the programme.

Field Coordinator [Organic Sikkim], Meena Sharma, in her address highlighted the concept and principle of organic farming and benefits of organic certification. She also briefed on National Programme for Organic Production [NPOP] and National Organic Programme [NOP] standards while stressing on the marketing procedure through ICS and importance of transaction certificate for marketing of organic produce.

Mission Officer cum VLW, Ms Bhutia, highlighted various methods of on-farm input preparation using local available farm materials. She also briefed on the usage of off-farm seed and inputs which has been distributed to the farmers by Food Security & Agriculture Development Department earlier.

Panchayat member, Mr Lepcha, extended gratitude to the FS&AD Department for organising such a beneficial programme for the farmers and updating them on organic farming practices.

Zilla Panchayat member, Ms Lepcha, urged students to be well informed on organic farming practices so that they can guide their parents for documentation works.

A copy of Scope Certificate was also handed over to Lingdong Berfok GPU by Mission Officer, Ms Sharma, on behalf of Organic Sikkim.
