Gangtok, 01 Sept:
District Child Protection Unit, under Social Justice Empowerment & Welfare Department, in collaboration with East District Administration are jointly conducting surprise visits and inspections at different Child Care Institutions established under SJE&WD, Government of Sikkim.
The inspections have commenced from East district on 30 Aug and will continue till 07 Sept. Similar inspections will be conducted in other districts as well, it is informed.
“On the first day of the campaign, a team led by District Collector, East, KapilMeena, Sub Divisional Magistrate, District Child Protection Officer, members of District Inspection Committee and other officials took stock of implementation and quality of services that are being provided to the children residing at the CCIs,”said DCPO, Deepak KiranRai.
The inspection team also interacted with the children during the visit. The CCI operators have been urged to implement various schemes as per norms and guidelines framed by the Government.
The inspection team led by the DC East today visitedfour CCIs of East district namely BalikaNiketanChildren Home, Eswaramma Social Welfare Association, Spastic Society of Sikkim and Special School for Hearing Impaired, Sichey.
During their visit, the team directed the staff of all the CCIs to adhere to the norms of Juvenile Justice [Care and Protection of Children] Act, 2015 and meet the minimum standard of care as per the act. The team alsoput forward various suggestions for the betterment of the institution and assured all possible help and cooperation from the department.
The CCIs have been requested to work together in coordination with the department for the benefit of children in need.
There are a total of 14 such CCIs in East district and the team will be inspecting all till 07 Sept, it is informed.
