Lok Sabha MP inaugurates IPPB Sikkim branch

Following the launch of India Post Payments Bank [IPPB] by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Lok Sabha MP, PD Rai, inaugurated IPPB Gangtok Branch here at Gangtok Post Office on 01 Sept.
On the occasion, Mr Rai, who was present as chief guest, mentioned about the dedicated service of India Post to the people of India. He stated that India Post has been serving Sikkim since 1930 and has made outstanding contribution towards Sikkim. He also gave suggestions to preserve the oldest post offices at Rhenock and Rangpo.
Mr Rai stressed that the people should know about bank services extended by State India Post. He expressed that the people of the State will benefit from this new service. He mentioned about various supports for the Centre towards the development of Sikkim. He also urged everyone to work in the interest of Sikkim and its people.
Likewise, Postmaster General, Sikkim, Amitabh Kharkwal, stated that India Post has a long history in serving people in all aspects of communications and allied services. He stated that with the thrust of financial inclusion, the concept of Payment Bank came into picture and India Post Payment Bank was given a license to operate by the RBI with 100% equity of the Government of India on 17 Aug, 2016.
“By 30 Jan, 2017, two pilot branches at Raipur and Ranchi commenced operations. Today, we are going live with 3250 access points across the country which included 650 branches,” he informed.
Sikkim Postmaster General informed that five locations will formally be made operational at Gangtok, Tadong, Samdur, Lingdum and Dhajey in Sikkim from today. He added that in the next phase, 21 post offices including Raj Bhawan, Singtam, Namchi and Melli and some of their branches will commence operations and are expected to cover all post offices in Sikkim by the end of 2018.
“Even though India Post has traditionally offered banking services to the people, the IPPB will offer a larger gamut of products and services as also technologically compete with the other players in the market,” he said.
He added that the launch of the Mobile app will also go a long way in providing customers efficient services.
