State level Teachers’ Day celebration held in Gangtok. 1stGuru Shiromani Award conferred to Chumzay

Gangtok, 05 Sept:

The State level Teachers’ Day Celebration was heldat MananBhawan today with Chief Minister, PawanChamling as the chief guest.

The programme witnessed a range of activities like book release, award ceremony and screening of filmon State Literacy Mission.

The State level function was attended by Ministers, MLAs, Advisors andChairpersons, Heads of Departments, officers of HRDD, and the teachingfraternity from throughout the State.

The programme began with the Chief Minister paying rich tribute to Dr. S. Radhakrishnanwhose name is synonymous with the noble profession of teaching, and inwhose honour the country celebrates Teachers’ Day on this day everyyear.

Guru Shiromani Award, which has been introduced by the State for the first time, was conferred to ChumzayNangpa. The award comprised of shawl, mementos and cash prize of Rs. 75,000.

The Basic Literacy Programme Certificate was given away to adult learners of the State, Passang Sherpa and Sunita Sharma.

A book titled “NaiTalim” Work Education and Experiential Learning wasalso released on the occasion. The book is a joint effort of theUniversities in the State, State SCERT and Mahatma Gandhi NationalCouncil of Rural Education (MGNCRE) formerly known as National Councilof Rural Institutes (NCRI), under the Ministry of Human ResourceDevelopment in Government of India.

Zero Investment innovation hand book was also released by the ChiefMinister followed by the felicitation of 32 innovative teachers.

The Chief Minister also launched a mobile app called ScholR Programmefor class IXto XII students and the website of Sikkim State University.

Programme also witnessed SwachaVidyalayaPuruskar 2017-18 being awarded toSonamChodaLepcha Memorial SS (North), Singpheng PS (West), BuriakhopSr Sec School (West), MelliSr Sec School (South), ManiramSr Sec School (South), BermiokTokalSr Sec School (South), Lower BurtukJr High School (East) and Reshi Primary School (East).

The trophies for the best performing schools went to Singtam SSS,SonamChodaLepcha Memorial SS, Dethang JHS and Ramidan PS.

On the occasion, mementos and cash of Rs. 1 lakh was presented to the National Awardees 2017 by the ChiefMinister for their exemplary services. Theprogramme also saw felicitation of best performing schools (Academic)from throughout the State, along with trophies for the best overallperforming schools in all districts.

For rendering extraordinary service in their teaching career, 8teachers from various Government schools were conferred the StateAward which comprised of cash of Rs. 50,000 along with certificates.

15 teachers of various schools of the state were also conferred withCommendable Award which comprised of cash of Rs. 25,000 along withcertificates. The CM while handing over the awardscongratulated the awardees for making an impact on the lives of thechildren of the states.

Earlier, songs were sung by the students of EncheySr SecSchool, byteachers of Modern SrSec School, teachers of ChujachenSr SecSchool and DIET trainees.

The function also saw a poem recitation by AdditionalDirector, HRDD, HP Dahal and a video presentation on State Literacy Mission.
