District officials take stock of Som slide zone, suggest alternate route to public

Rinchenpong-Legship via Yangsum and Chingthang to reach Gyalshing Gyalshing, 08 Sept [IPR]: Additional District Collector, Gyalshing, Karma Lodey Lepcha, along with Superintendent of Police, West, Tenzing Loden Lepcha, visited the landslide prone area of Som in West Sikkim today to review possible solutions to the inconveniences faced by the public of the area. The ADC was accompanied by officials of Road, PMGSY and Forest Departments. The ADC has directed the officials to ask the public residing in the nearby areas to cooperate with the departments in order to come up with a solution as soon as possible. He also further asked the officials to hear out the grievances and make plans to ease traffic snags in the area. The SP, West, has directed the Superintending Engineer, Power Department to chalk out a plan of action along with technical viewpoints which could be explained by the department to the affected public. He asked them to take necessary safety measures before clearing the debris. He further directed the SE, Roads, to submit a report on the options available for various routes available to the public for commuting from Dentam and surrounding areas to District HQ at Gyalshing. In the end, the SP also asked the SE if they could give a rough timeline on the completion of connectivity in the same route or alternative routes. The Department of Roads has advised the public of Dentam and the adjoining areas to take the route of Rinchenpong to Legship via Yangsum and Chingthang to reach Gyalshing for their official work. Further, the clearing of debris at the Lingchom road will be done after necessary clearance is sought from the public of the area.
