EMRS Gangyap girls lift NE C’ship for 9th consecutive time

Gangtok, 10 Sept: The girls’ basketball team of Eklavya Model Residential School [EMRS], Gangyap has once again lifted the CBSE Cluster 1 North East Zone Basketball Championship 2018 at Guwahati in Assam on 09 Sept. This is the ninth consecutive time that the EMRS Gangyap girls’ basketball team has won the NE championship. In the final held on Sunday, the EMRS Gangyap girls’ team defeated St Francis School, Guwahati 41-12. Tshogyal Dolma Bhutia scored 18 points while Semeema and Hissey Gyalmoo contributed 10 points each for EMRS Gangyap, informed team coach, Sidharth Yonzone. The EMRS boys’ team, however, lost to St Francis School, Guwahati 57-71 in the final match and ended up in 2nd position. Khamsum Dorjee Bhutia was adjudged Most Valuable Player in the boys’ category while Tshogyal Dolma Bhutia was adjudged Most Valuable Player in the girls’ category. Speaking to SummitTimes, team coach, Mr Yonzone, said, “We had worked extremely hard with the boys’ team. The players have matured and we could see a huge difference. Last year, the boys’ team lost in the semi finals. This year they reached the finals of the championship which is a great progress.” Mr Yonzone further added that both the EMRS Gangyap girls’ and boys’ team faced strong opponents during the final. Extending gratitude to Basketball Association of Sikkim, Mr Yonzone has also thanked District Collector [West], Additional District Collector [West], EMRS board members and well wishers for their constant support throughout the journey.
