SDF youth demand apology from SKM prez for calling them drug addicts

Gangtok, 10 Sept: A group of youth from in and around Gangtok, who recently joined the Sikkim Democratic Front, have registered strong objection against the recent statement of Sikkim Krantikari Morcha president, PS Tamang [Golay]. They alleged that in his speech at a recent meeting, Mr Tamang, while referring to them, called them drug addicts. Addressing a press conference here today, an Arithang resident, Kelly Jordan, who recently joined SDF after leaving SKM, mentioned that on seeing peace, progress and prosperity maintained by SDF government in the State, more than 100 youth from in and around Gangtok had recently joined the ruling party. On the same, he stated that SKM president has accused these youth of being drug addicts. “How can a leader give such irresponsible statement without any evidence? We strongly refute and condemn this false and irresponsible statement against us. We strongly demand that the SKM president present proof to back his statement within one week otherwise we will be compelled to take up this matter legally,” Mr Jordan expressed. He stated that the present-day youth will not take such random accusations lying down. He added that all educated and self-reliant youth were in the ruling party upon seeing its programmes and vision for the better future of youths. “We have not joined SDF for money or greed but by seeing the programme, principles and vision of the ruling party,” a Selep Tank youth, Jigmi Dorjee Tamang, added. He informed that 90 youth from Selep Tank area have recently joined SDF. He also demanded SKM president to immediately apologize for his statement.
