SPCC joins nationwide protest against fuel price hike

Gangtok, 10 Sept: Sikkim Pradesh Congress Committee [SPCC] staged a protest against persistent fuel price hikes here at SNOD petrol pump complex in Deorali today. The protest was part of the nation-wide Bharat Bandh called by the Congress party to protest the fuel price hike today from 10 AM to 3 PM. An SPCC team led by its president, Bharat Basnet, and joined by Congress leader, Captain Praveen Dabur, staged their protest with placards and raising slogans against the fuel price rise, inflation and other issues. Speaking to media persons, Mr Basnet stated that people of the country have been suffering due to inflation, price rise, demonization and other economic policies and decisions of the NDA government. He stated that the rise in fuel prices was affecting prices of every commodity and the poor have been paying high prices for LPG cylinders and other commodities. He mentioned that despite the raising of these issues by AICC president, Rahul Gandhi, and other Congress leaders in the Parliament, the Centre has remained totally silent. Mr Basnet mentioned that the Congress has been raising voice of the people through Bharat Bandh and the people of the country have been coming forward to show their suffering and anger to the Centre. Captain Dabur also lashed out against the Narendra Modi government. He alleged that the present government at the Centre was the most corrupt and communal ever seen in the country. He added that Rafale deal was one of the biggest scams and that the Centre has been refusing investigation despite Congress’ repeated demands. Captain Dabur stated that the Bharat Bandh has received encouraging support from the people of the country and has been successful in all parts of the country. He also stated that Sikkim Government should cut down its taxes on fuel to give some relief to the people of the State.
