Rains cannot dampen Namok-Tibuk’s Gandhi Jayanti zeal

Namok, 15 Sept:

Despite the dampener of incessant rain over the past one week, the zeal to organise a grand Gandhi Jayanti remains bright among the people of the small Limboo hamlet of Namok Tibuk here.

With a view to bring the people and younger generation closer to the idea of India, the youth here began celebrations here on Saturday leading up to Gandhi Jayanti coming up on 02 Oct.

The celebration was inaugurated by Shyam Pradhan, MLA Arithang.

While addressing the inaugural function, Mr Pradhan detailed the government initiatives to improve education, connectivity and health sector in Sikkim.

He also highlighted the various schemes like free education and establishment of a degree college at Mangshila and other efforts to bring elite educational institutions to the doorstep of the people.

He assured to raise the people’s demands in the right forum.

The Tibuk Junior High School, established in the 1985 as Primary School, was upgraded to Junior High School level two years ago. The school, however, has yet to receive a full-fledged Headmaster and is currently running a JHS from a two storeyed four-room building.

The people of the area have demanded better road connectivity and proper school building.

Meanwhile, a 17-day long football tournament is being organised in the school premises leading upto to Gandhi Jayanti when the final match is scheduled.

As part of the inaugural function, the students presented various folk dances.

In the opening match, Jusing Yakthung Boys out-played Tibuk 06 goals to 03.
