NileshLamichaney to lead State’s senior cricket team at Vijay HazareC’ship
Gangtok, 18 Sept:
Sikkimese cricketer, NileshLamichaney, has been declared as Captain of Sikkim’s Senior Cricket Team for the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy 2018-19. This was declared today by coach,Sanjeev Sharma. Sikkim will be competing against five North Eastern States along with Bihar, Uttarakhand and Puducherry in the Plate Divisionin Gujarat, a press release informs.
Nilesh started his career in the 2004-05 season playing in the U-15 team where he was shaped by the then coach,SonamPalden Bhutia. In the next season [2005-06], he was made the Captain of U-15 based on the performance where he scored his first century against Bengal and became the first player from Sikkim to score a ton at home and also took 6 wickets in the same match.
The same year, he was promoted to U-17 tour under the leadership of Lee Yong Lepcha and there he scored his 2nd century batting at No 8 against Kerala. During 2012-13 seasonwhen Sikkim got the status as an associate member of the Board of Control for Cricket in India [BCCI], he was once again picked to lead the U-19 team where he scored two back-to-back centuries against Nagaland and Mizoram and was also awarded best Batsman of the tour.
“I have been leading the Sikkim team since 2004-05, but this is first-class cricket and I am very thankful to our coach, support staff along with the association for giving me the honor and opportunity to lead the side. I have full confidence in the team and we’ll play with our hearts and spirit. Looking forward to having a good tour.” says Nilesh.
President of SCA, Lobzang G Tenzing, has extended best wishes for the tournament while expressing confidence that Nilesh will take the role of captaincy with pride and responsibility.
“He should take the whole team forward with the true spirit of sportsmanship and shouldn’t hesitate in taking bold decisions on behalf of the team and for the best results,” said MrTenzing.
