MoS Road Transport calls on Governor


Gangtok, 20 Sept:

Minister of State for Road Transport & Highways, Shipping, Chemicals and Fertilizers, Mansukh Mandavia, called on Governor Ganga Prasad at Raj Bhavan on 19 Sept. It was a courtesy call by the Minister of State who is on a two-daylong visit to Sikkim to oversee various central projects and schemes being implemented in Sikkim.

A press communiqué received from Raj Bhavan informs that during a brief meeting, the Governor conveyed his concern on the condition of highways being maintained and upgraded by the central agencies including National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited [NHIDCL] in the State.

He also informed the MoS about the recent damages inflicted on the roads and bridges especially in North District following the onslaught of monsoon in the first and second week of Sept.

The MoS assured to take the matter of restoration and up gradation of highways in the State on priority by the ministry.

Concerning the availability of generic medicines in the State, the MoS informed that a plan has been finalised in consultation with the State Government and the Health Department to open generic medicine stores in all the four districts in a bid to ensure its availability which will reduce the cost of medicines considerably.
