SJE&WD conducts workshop on Poshan Abhiyaan

Gangtok, 21 Sept [IPR]: The Nutrition Cell of Social Justice Empowerment & Welfare Department conducted a daylong orientation workshop on Poshan Abhiyaan for Nodal Officers, Child Development Project Officers, Supervisors and DEOs at the conference hall of the department in Lumsey today.

The department organised the workshop with the participation of all stakeholders from Human Resource Development Department, Rural Management & Development Department and Health Department to provide complete orientation on Poshan Abhiyaan to explain the key components of the Abhiyaan and to provide hand holding in using the software involved and to augment the convergence with the different line departments in implementing the Abhiyaan for improved nutritional outcomes.

Zilla Adakshya, East, Sasher Rai, attended the event as chief guest in the presence of Special Secretary, SJE&WD, Dhanjyoti Mukhia, Mission Director/ICDS, Phuchung Bhutia, line department officials, District level officers and Block level functionaries of ICDS and Nutrition Cell.

Detailing on the implementation strategy, State Project Director, PhuchungBhutia, enumerated on ICDS-CAS, Convergence, BCC/IEC advocacy, Training and Capacity Building and Incentives.

The technical session included implementation details on Poshan Abhiyaan conducted by State Project Coordinator, Bharati Basnett. She highlighted on IYCF, Immunisation, Institution Delivery, Water Sanitation & Hygiene [WASH], Deworming, ORS/Zinc, Food fortification with the IFS, Adolescent Nutrition, Convergence and Maternal Health & Nutrition.

It may be mentioned here, Poshan Abhiyaan was launched on 08 Mar, 2018 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Jhunjhunu in Rajasthan. The Abhiyaan targets to reduce stunting, under nutrition, anaemia, and reduce low birth weight. The target of the mission is to bring down stunting any children in the age group 0-6 years from 38.4 % to 25 % by 2022.
