Gangtok, 21 Sept:
Boys Club, Gangtok, has announced plans to organise the 6th edition of the Inter-Departmental Football Tournament 2018 in the month of November later this year here at Paljor Stadium. Due to some unavoidable circumstances, this annual tournament could not be organised last year, so the organisers have decided to organise the tournament in a grander manner this year. The league-cum-knock out tournament is likely to start on 20 Nov.
Following the same, the first meeting of the club with representatives of different government departments of the State was held here at Paljor Stadium this evening.
During the meeting, the organising committee shared various details about the tournament with the departmental representatives. It is informed that the organising committee will send the registration form and rule book of the tournament to every department. The last date of the submission of the registration form to the committee is 20 Oct.
Speaking to media persons, Boys Club coordinator, Nima Thendup, mentioned that government departments are excited about the upcoming tournament and more teams are likely to join this year. A total of 23 teams had participated in the last edition of the tournament.
On behalf of the club, he also thanked the State Government for giving them the opportunity once again to organise the tournament. He also thanked the State Government for encouraging sports, sportspersons and clubs of the State through incentives and grants.
Mr Thendup stated that the tournament will now be an annual calendar event of the club which will start on 17 Aug every year from next year onwards. He explained that the tournament is a recreational activity for government employees while encouraging them towards fitness and healthy life through sports.
He added that with the announcement of this tournament, most of government employees have been sweating hard every day on the field to prepare for the tournament. He added that due to the tournament, many good footballers have also got jobs in different departments.
“This tournament is for healthy Sikkim,” he said.
