CS and officials inspect preps at Pakyong for PM’s visit

Pakyong, 21 Sept [IPR]: Chief Secretary AK Shrivastava, along with Director General of Police, SD Negi, Secretary [Buildings & Housing Department], Secretary [Roads & Bridges Department], Special Secretary [Urban Development & Housing Department] and other officers visited and inspected the ongoing preparations at St Xavier’s School in Pakyong, East Sikkim for the upcoming visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi from 23-24 Sept, 2018.

Also present at the venue were area MLA, Hemendra Adhikari, Additional District Collector [Development], Pakyong, Sub Divisional Magistrate, Pakyong, Additional Chief Engineer, Energy & Power Department, Airports Authority of India officials and engineers from the concerned line departments.

The CS took stock of the preparations at St Xavier’s School, Pakyong. Arrangements at the ground were expected to be completed by later today to accommodate around 8000 people.

The Bazaar area was also inspected where cleaning works were underway.

Special Secretary, UDHD, informed that white-washing on the walls and maintenance of street lights have been taken up. General notices have also been issued in this regard by the department directing prohibition on hanging dry clothes alongside the road and rooftops in and around Pakyong Bazaar.

Likewise, all shopkeepers and households have been directed to maintain cleanliness in their surroundings while owners of under construction structures are to ensure removal of construction materials/ debris from sites along the road. The area was found to be clean.

The road works were also inspected en-route to the airport. The damaged and trouble spots have been taken care of and the stretch was found smooth for conveyance.

Later, the preparations at the airport were also inspected by the team. Directions regarding placement of the Airport Model, Plaque, etc were also given. The works being taken up was inspected and directions were given in line with the programme to the concerned executing agencies.
