Punjab Minerva picks two from Sikkim for training

Gangtok, 25 Sept:

Two budding footballers from Sikkim have been selected for training by Punjab Minerva Football Club.

Uttam Mangar and Biboswan Dahal, both ten years old, are heading for Chandigarh on 27 September to join the Pnjab Minerva boot camp.

Both will be under contract with Minerva for five years.

“I am very happy for my son. We will support him in chasing his dream of becoming a professional footballer,” beam Meenu and BB Dahal, the proud parents of Biboswan.

A total of 22 players from Sikkim were selected for the final trails held on 13 September in Punjab.

Earlier, selection trials were held at Gangtok and Namchi after which the shortlisted prospects were invited to Punjab for the final selection trial.

Uttam hails from Kerabari village in South Sikkim and is the son of Devi Tamang and Janga Bahadhur Mangar.

“He is too fascinated by football… he lives the sport. We are very happy with his selection,” said the father.

Both are studying in class V and play as strikers.

Bisboswan is a student of Tashi Namgyal Academy while Uttam studies at Kerabari Govt School.

“My favourite footballer is Lionel Messi,” says Bisboswan, while Uttam says he likes Neymar the most.

Both name FC Barcelona as their favorite club.
