PM’s speech has exposed misuse of funds under SDF Govt: SKM

Sikkim KrantikariMorchahas said that Prime Minister NarendraModi’s speech on 24 Sept at Pakyong has revealed that the State received huge amounts of money from the Centre which contradicts the Chief Minister’s statements on lack of funds hampering development in Sikkim.

SKM has demanded that the State Government clarify on how funds provided by the Centre were used.

Addressing a press conference here today, SKM spokesperson, Jacob Khaling stated that as per the PM Modi, an amount of Rs 350crore was provided for eight projects for river conservation from Gangtok to Singtam and another Rs 150 crore for Rani Khola, Rs 1500 crore for the national highway and another Rs 2.5 crore for repairing, upgradation and carpeting of other roads in Sikkim, Rs 1500 crore for electrification and transmission line improvement, Rs 14000 crore to six hydel power projects in Sikkim, Rs 40 crore for the convenience of pilgrims of MansarovarYatra and others.

On the same, Mr Khaling has demanded that the government show the works done using these funds provided by the Centre. He alleged that the condition of Rani Khola and river at Singtamis not good despite such huge amounts provided by the Centre.

“Now the State Government should answer the people on the use of such funds provided by the Centre,” he said.

He further questioned the deplorable state of roads and electricity supply despite the Centre giving funds for the same.

Mr Khaling also demanded that the MoU of six hydel power projects for which, the PM had said, Rs 14000 crore was provided, be made public.

Accusing the government of corruption, the party reiterated its demand for CBI inquiry into the same.

SKM narimorcha chief convener, Kala Rai has demanded stringent and immediate action against an employee of a pharma company who was recently arrested for molesting a minor girl. She also demandedproper treatment and counselling of the victim and further demanded that the company take responsibility for educating the victim girl.

SKM vice-president, UttamLepchaquestioned the silence of SDF CheliMorcha on this case and alleged that the ruling party is silent as the victim is from a poor family.
